Fakultas Kehutanan UNMUL berdiri sejak diterbitkan SK Menteri Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan No. 130 tanggal 25 September 1962, merupakan salah satu fakultas dari 5 fakultas yang terdapat di lingkungan UNMUL.
Sementara program studi di Fakultas Kehutanan (Program Studi Manajemen Hutan dan Teknologi Hasil Hutan) dikuatkan dengan Surat Keputusan Direktur Jenderal Pendidikan Tinggi: SK DIKTI No. 102/DIKTI/Kep/1984 Tanggal 21 Agustus 1984
Pada dekade tahun 1980an, percepatan kemajuan Fakultas Kehutanan UNMUL didukung oleh kehadiran 2 proyek bantuan luar negeri yaitu GTZ (Jerman) dan JICA (Jepang). Manfaat dari kehadiran proyek ini sangat terasa sekali, diantaranya mendorong pengembangan pendidikan lanjutan bagi sebagian besar staf pengajar dan pengembangan alat-alat praktikum di laboratorium-laboratorium.
Selanjutnya, Program Magister Ilmu Kehutanan didirikan berdasarkan Surat Keputusan Dirjen DIKTI No. 103/DIKTI/Kep/1993 Tanggal 27 Pebruari 1993.
