Climate change is a serious threat to human life. Each year, thousands of people are in the risk of climate change impacts such as flood and drought. Scientists have defined a threshold for less impact to climate change, i.e. the raise of temperature should be less than 2°C (compared to those before industrial revolution) to avoid the most severe climate change impact. Some obvious impacts among others are more frequent floods, droughts, hunger and the lost of original Amazon ecosystem, extinction of 20-50% of the whole creatures and the raise of sea level due to ice melting.

Green economy have been growing and being adopted by governments with a desire to restore the environment while keeping the welfare of the people. Natural resources management should always be in line with the green economy principle, especially when it deals with a region with tropical and natural characteristics like the East Kalimantan. The nature’s dynamic with its complex challenge and problems with regard to natural resources management requires specific attention, especially due to so many parties involved in the process of natural resources management that dominated by natural landscape.

Forest management then become the avant garde in the natural resources management, including various aspects such as social forestry, management unit, forest and land fire, food provision, energy, fresh/clean water and biodiversity.

In this context, the Forestry Faculty of Mulawarman University conduct an international conference to streamline the development into green economy by considering various current ideas and innovations. This conference shall contributes significantly into the implementation of green economy in the natural resources management toward successful development of the nation’s welfare and self-sufficiency.
